Amigos
A group of small-scale coffee growers in Planadas, Tolima
STORY
Our coffee Amigos (good friends) represent the unity and fraternity of Colombian coffee growers. People in Colombia is characterized for being welcoming, easy-going and friendly. For us, this coffee represents some of the most important aspects of what it means to be human: joy, audacity, courage and togetherness. The people from Planadas, experienced 50 years of violence in this region due to the presence of the guerilla. In fact, the guerilla group, FARC, was born in Planadas and the community was ruled by this group, being forced to living by their rules, instead of the government’s. This resulted in this small town being forgotten and left behind by the government. Despite safety and security issues in the past, due to the guerrilla presence, these coffee growers have always grown their coffee with pride and care.
In Planadas, Tolima the farmers that produce Amigos aspire to take every day as an opportunity to improve and share what they have learnt with other farmers that produce coffee for the same group. These growers have made great leaps to consistently produce high quality coffee. Today, they are aware, that their coffee is drank by friends who share special moments together with a special drink of coffee.
