El Guayacán
STORY
San Ignacio and Jaen, are provinces located up north in the department of Cajamarca, bordering Ecuador, is well known for its pristine and beautiful natural forests and being the main capital of Peruvian coee. It is a place with long political and religious history which in the past years has seen a lot of growth in part through the production of coee bringing prosperity and development. Both San Ignacio and Jaen, have become leaders in tourism and environmentally friendly practices.
Caravela started working in the area in 2019 with the help of the PECA agronomists, and as such Guayacan started, creating a relationship with 35 producers initially. El Guayacan is a magnificent and majestic tree with yellow flowering that usually embellishes the coee landscapes of northern Cajamarca, hence the name of this coee. These trees are seen in some farms providing shade and protecting coee trees. El Guayacan coee covers several of our oldest relationships with quality-minded coee growers in northern Peru. Our PECA team has been working with this group of producers for three years, building strong relationships and seeing improvements in infrastructure and quality of coee. We are excited to work with coee growers from this region because they are committed to investing in their farmers, improving quality, and in developing a sustainable and noble standard of living for their community.
