David Mendez

FINCA EL NARANJO STORY

In the highlands of western Guatemala, the magnificent El Naranjo farm resides. This farm is a testament and representation of the commitment and passion the father and son team has for coffee growing. David Méndez and his son, also David, have been working on this farm for the past five years to produce the best coffees in Huehuetenango. They are both business people and coffee lovers who inherited the family farm. David’s grandfather was the fist to grow coffee in the region. Itis a unique farm in the departmental capital of Huehuetenango since there was no coffee growing in this area before them. The farm is surrounded by forests that generate oxygen for the city. The Mendez family are very environmentally conscious, they do not cut down native trees, they have a rainwater harvesting system and they produce vermicompost.

For David, “coffee is a very special crop that provides a unique consumer experience and also represents a major source of employment in Guatemala. David, as a producer and entrepreneur, is motivated to continue being part of the specially coffee industry and cultivate a high-quality product, which allows him access to better prices, but he is proud of the national and intemational recognition he and his family receive for producing coffee.
