FINCA EL MACAHUITE STORY
Eleuterio is a coffee farmer from the municipality of San Antonio Ozolotepec, and at his Finca El Macahuite, he works together with his wife and daughter. The farm name is in honor of a native tree found on the farm, distinguished by its colorful and striking yellow flowers. On his farm, he focuses on picking red cherries, and in total, he carries out 3 to 4 coffee pickings per harvest cycle, since his farm is 1 hectare. Later, in the afternoon, he usually pulps the coffee, and it can ferment from 24 to 32 hours, depending on weather conditions.
He started working with specialty coffees out of the need to find a better price for his coffee. Eleuterio says that he only heard that his coffees were special and worth a lot. Two years ago, when he started working with Caravela in his community, he began to get advice and learn what makes a special coffee! He says now he understands and realized there are many factors behind a great coffee, and it feels good to work hand-in- hand with people who share experiences and information, with the honest desire to help the coffee grower like the PECA team.
Nowadays, Eleuterio and his family are proud of their coffee and farm. At the same time, he highlights that having that connection with nature makes him happy. For him, plants are living beings that communicate and help his family economy.
