Gabriel Arteaga Regalado
FINCA VIRGEN DEL BUEN REMEDIO STORY
In the northern province of San Ignacio in Peru, we arrive to the district of Chirinos with its main urban center being Chirinos, high up in the mountains at 1,858 masl. From here we take the road to arrive to Gabriel Arteaga’s farm, Virgen del Remedio. He settled for this name as he has a virgin forest and many medicinal plants used in the community to treat health issues. Gabriel comes from a coffee farming family, and as such, he has always been involved with coffee and learned about it. It been already 40 years, that he has been working in coffee but since 2018 started to look for quality in his coffee. This decision came upon by seeing that specialty coffee was paid better, hence he traced an objective of producing high quality coffee and doing it step by step. Now a day he has several varieties in his farm like Bourbon, Caturra, Catimor, and Gesha. Something important of Gabriel, has been working at the farm alongside his brother who is an agronomist and as such has become his right hand to always be able to achieve better things. In these last years, he has been able to improve his quality of life, hence being able to provide for his daughter and improve the infrastructure of the farm such as the drying beds. This process has made him recognized in the district of Chirinos and for the next step Gabriel wants to have a high-quality coffee to participate in Cup of Excellence Peru.
As parting message, Gabriel want to tell you “Trust me and keep buying my coffee, that I give you my word I’ll keep improving my quality and take care of the environment, to offer high-quality coffee without altering the ecosystem.”
