FINCA LAS FLORES STORY
José Orlando Vásquez is a small coffee producer who owns the Las Flores farm with a total area of 2 hectares. He currently grows red Paca and yellow Catuai varieties, and his average production is 50 bags of 120 pounds of parchment, of which he delivered 55% to Caravela in the 2022 crop year and represent the first deliveries as part of our supply chain in northern El Salvador.
The farm is located in the beautiful Caserio El Barrancon, which belongs to the canton of El Aguacatal, municipality of La Palma, department of Chalatenango, with an altitude of 1,260 meters (about 4133.86 ft) above sea level. At the farm, José Vásquez works with the family harvesting, processing, and drying coffee. He has been working with coffee for 8 years now. For processing the coffee, he does dry fermentation (no water) and dries on raised beds for more than 15 days on average.
In addition to growing coffee, he devotes his spare time and off-season months to plumbing, which involves repairing the pipes that transport drinking water throughout his community.
