FINCA EL FALDÓN STORY
Luvia Felisa runs together with her husband Juan Jose the Finca El Faldón nestled in the Palencia municipality, 30 kilometers away from the capital city. The El Faldón farm honors and remembers Luvia’s grandfather, who first named it. Luvia has always been motivated by differentiating her coffee, especially quality, to reach new quality grades, and markets. Thus, specialty coffee production has changed the way to work on the farm, from fertilization, picking, and obtaining more coffee knowledge and skills. When she decided to take over the change and get more involved, she received a lot of help from the team at the farm as her husband was outside the country at that time.
She recalls, “I used to oversee all farm activities, hire the temporary and permanent staff, and find buyers. Before every harvest, as my husband was far away, he helped and supported me from away. Now that he is here, I have more support and help to improve constantly at the farm.” Five years ago, coffee was not the main crop option at the farm; they also grow tomatoes, corn, and beans. She started to see more future in coffee and completely fell in love with it, making it the most important crop on the farm today. For her, it has become a more sustainable and profitable crop over the past few years.
“I hope customers enjoy the quality of our coffee, grown with care to obtain a highly differentiated cup. You are welcome to visit our plantations, see the flowering, or experience the harvest, as they are the most beautiful stages in coffee.
