FINCA SAWINTUYOC STORY

On the rural area of the district of Yanatile, apart from the urban area, Richard Churata has his farm Sawintuyoc. The name comes from a type of tree that is found in the farm; sawinto. At the farm, Richard lives with his wife, Guillermina Quispe, and his son, where each one plays a key role. His son takes care of the cleaning of the coffee trees, fertilization, fermentation and washing, while his wife feeds the workers and takes care of selling the coffee. Richard has been for over 30 years in coffee, learning in his early years from his parent who was also a coffee farmer. An experience that marked him in coffee and showed him the potential he had was when the district of Yanatile selected him to participate with his coffee in a coffee trade show. Around 2018 is when he decided to look for high quality coffee in his production motivated by the good prices. During that journey he has changed things in his process such as before he used to dry the coffee in the patio, but he decided to invest in the solar dryers he has now a day to do a good process and improve the quality. For him, working with Caravela has been a beautiful experience with the personalized treatment by the PECA educator. Richard’s biggest challenge is to increase the volume of coffee produced and continue to improve his quality.
