Uber Velazquez Carrillo

FINCA GRACIAS A DIOS STORY

Finca Gracias a Dios is in the beautiful community of Siltepec along the Sierra Madre in Mexico. On his farm, Uber Velasquez dedicates 100% of his time to coffee production, and the area also thrives on coffee farming. He has been growing coffee for 40 years and learned about specialty coffee about 15 years ago.

Uber says, “I am interested in coffee because it’s part of my culture, a legacy from my parents. They taught me how to grow organic compost and how to get good-quality coffee. Today, 100% of my coffee is grown in the shade.” On his farm, he has different varieties such as Bourbon, Maragogype, Costa Rica 95 and old Arabica trees. The coffee is processed in an artisanal way on the farm. It is fermented in concrete tanks and dried on concrete terraces on palm mats.

On the other hand, Uber does not work alone, but together with his wife and his temporary workers. The tasks of harvesting, processing, and drying the coffee are divided between them. He is responsible for the sale of the coffee they produce Currently, he is motivated to continue producing specialty coffee because he knows that he has a guarantee of prompt payments through a reliable and trustworthy relationship with Caravela.

Lastly, Uber says, “There is good quality coffee in our area, and we work every day to improve so that the customer is satisfied with the quality of the coffee.”
